Incredible photos. And I enjoy the other art and drawings that you post as well. Looking forward to seeing the art firsthand when I visit NW Indiana. We’ve gotten compliments on the woodland scene that our son gave me as a Christmas present.

A Note From James

How I got started

The year was 2013, my high school career came to an end. I graduated from Griffith high school in Indiana with a core 40 diploma. It was a huge accomplishment, especially after being told in elementary school that I couldn’t function in a regular school. The staff at the elementary school that I went to did not care about me or my wellbeing. They just wanted to either send me to an alternative school or medicate my bad behavior away.

Luckily I have a good mom who fought tooth and nail for me to stay in the regular school and get the help that I needed. It wasn’t easy. I will never forget the time that my mom came up to the school for one of our many iep meetings and after the meeting me and my mom sat in the lobby and cried because they were treating us so bad. That says a lot. I takes a lot to get my mom to cry the way that she did that day.

Luckily things were a lot better during middle school and high school. My senior year and graduation were a very exciting time for me. After the senior year and graduation fun was over, there came the big question, what am I going to do with my life.

Through my time in school, I was asked plenty of times what I wanted to be when I grew up. My answer changed over the years, but there is one thing that I did know and that is that did not want to be like my dad, stuck in the corporate rat race, spending 40 hours or more per week working a job that made me depressed and bored. My autism limited my options as any job that requires a lot of communication isn’t a good fit for me, but…

As I lit and watched fireworks on my last high school 4th of July

As I registered for my senior year of high school

As I went to school for my last first day of school

As I watched my senior homecoming parade and football game

As I danced at my senior homecoming dance

As I ate cake at my last high school birthday party

As I trick or treated on my last high school Halloween

As I ate turkey and pie on my last high school thanksgiving

As I opened presents on my last high school Christmas

As I counted down to the big year of my high school graduation on my last high school New Year’s Eve

As I danced at my senior turnabout

As I gave gifts to a girl that I had a crush on on my last high school Valentine’s Day

As I enjoyed my last high school vacation

As I hunted Easter eggs on my last high school Easter

As I rocked my last high school talent show

As I ate at my senior banquet

As I danced at my senior prom

As I had my senior pictures taken

As I got my cap and gown

As I did my last homework assignment

As I took my last test

As I went to my senior classes for the last time

As I ate at my senior cookout on my last day of high school

As I enjoyed the big moment of walking across the stage at my graduation ceremony and got my diploma

As I rocked my graduation party…

My computer sat there at home, full of photos that I have taken and pictures that I had drawn over the years, dating back to elementary school. I had pictures of flowers, sunsets, trees, and more.

With all of the pictures, my older sister gave me the idea to start my art business. That summer was my town’s first summer of their weekly market. I used the money that I made from my graduation party to buy what I needed to get started.

On September 6th, 2013 my booth went up for the first time at the market. Later on I started my website, autisticeyert.com. Now 11 years later I celebrate my 11 year business anniversary with with my sweepstakes and print giveaway.

I am currently giving away a limited number of art prints of my new Flower Collection for FREE.

Why would I give my art away for free?

It is one of my goals to someday be a full time artist.

Giving away these prints for free helps me get my name out there, and share my artwork and photography directly with you.

This is a way to give you a taste of what I have to offer and build trust in my work and my business.

It helps me extend my reach and connect with more people. Maybe you’ll even think of me next time you need an original painting.

I believe that everyone should be able to have beautiful art in their space.

The art that you surround yourself and your family with should be thought provoking, have an emotional connection to you and say something about you.

I hope that this free print offer enables you (regardless of your budget) to decorate your home with artwork that resonates with you.

Through our shared love for science, nature, and art, I hope to bring that positivity into your life with my work.

About James Leslie

James Leslie is the sole owner and creative force behind Autistic Eye Art. James was diagnosed with autism when he was 2 years old. He has always had a passion for the arts. He started from a very young age drawing numerous pictures on his home computer. He made up a shape he called a “bolony” and drew many pictures of it on his computer. He would learn a song and then create up his own song by making beats with his mouth or on a little keyboard that belonged to one of his older sisters.

With a lot of hard work, determination, and support from those who love him, James graduated from Griffith High School with his Core 40 in 2013. With seemingly insurmountable obstacles, achieving this goal was a major accomplishment for James. From the challenges of being autistic to the challenges of a system made for the status quo, he rose above his disabilities to do what he knew he was capable of.

As time progressed, James continued to develop his talent for both visual and musical art.

Currently the majority of his spare time is spent either taking pictures or playing the guitar and piano.

James is now at a crossroads in his life. He is searching for the next path, overwhelmed by the endless possibilities. For now, however, he is happy with sharing his art and music with the world. James takes pictures for himself; to capture a world that captivates him.

We hope that it captivates you too. Thank you for taking the time to check out the website!
